The narrow limestone escarpment that runs from Dijon to Lyons covers an idyllic landscape of vineyards and valleys, copses, meadows, paddocks and walled clos, and on the higher ground chestnut, birch and oak forests. In the Côte de Beaune this patchwork scenery is perhaps at its best, and we walk here through idyllic villages such as Savigny-lès-Beaune, Monthélie, Pommard, Meursault, Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet. We end in Autun, for a final day exploring one of France's most important Roman cities.
