From the famous communes of the Medoc and the Libournais are produced the most internationally respected of all wines. Vines are grown in a surprising variety of scenery - on the slopes of hilly knolls, along picturesque river banks, within fields of poppies, between orchards, woods and pasture and even on an island. A perfect setting then for exploration on foot, gently rambling the narrow lanes from château to château. We walk through Margaux, St Julien and Pauillac, cross by ferry to Bourg & Blaye, from Pomerol to medieval St Emilion, and along the Dordogne to Vayres. This is the ideal holiday for getting to know the great names of the wine world with gentle walking in a relaxed atmosphere.
